Giving thanks for 'small things'

Our heavenly Father is so kind and generous. All the good in our lives are gracious, undeserved gifts from His pure, unchanging hands.

When life changes as suddenly and dramatically as it has for us all recently, the ‘small things’ – the many good gifts that we have taken for granted – become very precious signs of God’s unchanging Fatherly care.

What might we be able to look at with eyes of faith and give thanks to our Father for today?

For me, there’s white blossom buds in my garden, and a particularly sunny seat by my window for a morning quiet time. There’s the phone call with a friend that I’m looking forward to later today.

And even on the days where there is no blossom, and there is no sun, and no phone call anticipated, there is the greatest gift of all – forgiveness of sins through Jesus Christ which means that we can know God as our Father in heaven.
